Field Day Outing August 11, 2024

Today was the annual Field Day Outing. It is an annual event to get members together to socialize and shoot, and bring in nonmembers who might be interested in learning more about the Black River Rod & Gun Club.

The weather was absolutely perfect, not to hot, not too cool, and there weren't any bugs to speak of. The food was delicious, from the hotdogs, hamburgers, and corn on the cob cooked on the grill by Nils and his crew, to the wide variety of salads and desserts made and donated by the members and their families. For an event like this to come off, it takes a village of volunteers. From my perspective, everything ran smoothly and everyone was having a great time!

If you want to download any of the photos, click on it first to be taken to a larger view and download from there for the best quality.

While you were waiting for the food to be ready, and throughout the whole event, you could purchase Black River Rod & Gun Club tee shirts and hats.

You could also purchase tickets for two raffles. There was a 50/50 raffle which netted the winner almost $200.

You could also purchase a raffle ticket for this beautiful  Ruger American, 308 (model 16934) Black Synthetic stock, with a Vortex “Crossfire II”  3 x 9 x 40 Scope. There is a limit of 150 tickets for this item at $20 per ticket. Tickets will be sold until the Game Supper at the end of the year. The drawing will take place at the Game Dinner on December 7, 2024.

Leash Tracking Dog Service was here once again to answer all of your questions about what to do if you know of an injured deer or bear and how their company can be of service.

And then there was this amazing man who was showing the young kids how he could talk to the turkeys, crows, and owls. Even as an adult, I was totally enthralled by his skills.

If you weren't into shooting clay birds, you could go up to the pistol range and try out a variety pistols and rifles. A Ruger representative brought in all kinds of guns for people to try.

There was plenty of food to eat and time to socialize with friends and old aquaintances.

While you were eating, you were seranaded by the most amazing fiddle and banjo player.

And there was Trap Shooting for anyone who wanted to shoot. For anyone who had never tried it, Ruger had guns that you could use and seasoned, patient trap shooting members to walk you throught it. Ammuntions for nonmembers and novices was donated so that anyone who wanted to give trap shooting a try could.

off to reload the trap house

My what a gorgeous shooting bag! Someone had a lot of talent and skill to make that!

A sight of joy and wonder ( and thousands of dollars too)!

Between squads, one of the members takes a small group down to show them the house and the birds and how it all works.

The orange cone on the house lets everyone know that someone is down below and they cannot shoot.

He hands each one a clay bird so they can see how they look and feel  and how easily they can be broken.

The device that hears you say "pull" and tells the trap house to release the bird.

Shot gun shells that were donated for newbies to give the sport a try.

Cleaning up after yourself. Each member must pick up their hulls.

The last squad of the day decided to try shooting from 27 yards. Earlier in the day, everyone was shooting from the 16 yard mark,

Hope you all had a great time! See you at the Game Supper in the Fall!
